I feel like this piece is speaking to me. I've been having some thoughts about running and other stuffs lately and itching to write it down somewhere before those thoughts drift away. Maybe no one will read it and it's fine. Maybe it feels awkward writing unorganized thoughts or streams of consciousness and that's fine too. I appreciate writers who can put into words succinctly and resonate with many of us.
Loved this retrospective about you journey of great essays!! Checking if there is something I didnt read yet. Runner world sucks 😂 (not the people or great journalists working there off course)
Oh man, you are one of my favourite writers. I ran my first marathon (5:15 in Chicago) in 2014 - we fell in love with the sport at the same time. And while I’m leaps and bounds behind you (PB is now 3:20 and got to run Boston 2022!) your passion for this distance and this sport is something that chokes me up, every time.
This came at a perfect time, as I sit on a bunch of notes/half ass essays about my professional field. I’ve been afraid of starting to publish my Substack because I am NOT AN EXPERT and am worried about pushback. Oh well, right?
Lastly, your piece about the return to road running was everything. When I ran Boston I waited in line to meet Meb, feeling the way I’m sure a Swiftie would feel if they got a backstage pass. When I told him that I read his books MANY times living through that time of zero races, because his books made me feel like I was on the road racing next to him, I started weeping and he got up and hugged me. Then he signed the back of my bib. Anyway, I bet reading your book will have the same kind of impact - can’t wait.
I just started: 100% inspired by this blog. Thanks for the example, the writing and the encouragement.
Thank you! Please enjoy, and get going with making yourself when the time is right.
Lovely stuff Peter- I can't wait for the book!!
You continue to blow my mind as I continue to get up in the wee hours to run. Thank you.
Thank you for reading! Those miles are always worth it
Beyond stoked that you're working on a book. Cheering you on!!
I feel like I’m at mile 3 of a marathon and I’m inspired but also tired! I need literary food & drink!
oh man, I feel this!! Definitely need a steady diet of good literary food and drink and rest too! Don't forget the rest.

I LOVE that you're writing a book--you're such a talent and it will be beautiful, I'm sure.
Thank you! I’ve got a good start, with so so much work to go. It’ll be a journey.
I hope you know I'll be asking you back on Chasing Three Hours to discuss the book when it's close to coming out! Excited to read it.
Oh hell yes. I can’t wait. SOOOOoo much writing to do before then.

Thanks for writing!
A book! So exciting. Thanks for all the writing you’ve already done. Looking forward to whatever you’ve got coming down the line.
